Resilience and sustainability provide a path to a modern energy economy.

A vision for a resilient electric grid that integrates renewable energy resources is crucial for a green economy. Resilience requires grid modernization to ensure reliable operation in the face of natural turbulence and nefarious human interference. Integrating renewables in an efficient and economically feasible fashion also points to grid modernization at a fundamental level.

These efforts must include the following core concepts:

1)     Power conversion based on high electron mobility transistors (#HEMT).

2)     Grid-level energy storage.

3)     High power-density designs that shrink substation facilities to (underground) bunkers.

The power electronics community is excited to offer relevant, cost-effective solutions for this vital project.
